Shawn is an emerging artist from Punta del Este, Uruguay. Raised in a family of Latin American and North American descent, he recently put aside his signature recycled constructions to explore abstract paintings in a style referred to as colloquial-naif with personalized symbology and motifs. The works center on common global themes, including mass transit, environmental concerns, and social issues of special interest to the artist. The bright and bold works are pared down to simplistic forms, brash responses, and catchy slogans with nods to Basquiat, street art, neo-expressionism, graffiti, and controlled de-skilling.
Shawn Sebastian is the youngest and most recent artist to collaborate with AltSur. Drawing upon guttural responses to external stimuli, his work is physical, poetic and political with ample doses of sarcasm and wit. He incorporates acrylics, paint sticks and spray paints into his work, applying shapes. figures, words and graphic symbology with raw and textural paint application. Influenced by the finest UK and US graffiti and street artists from the 80s to the 00s, Shawn Sebastian is a young artist worth collecting early and for many years to come.
