The 2023 Habitat series features complex bases with JP Paul's signature multi-layered, controlled-random abstractions on heavily distressed canvas combined with complex overlaid abstract-figurative elements in black ink. This series arose from a previous collaboration between the artist and his mentor/teacher, Carlos Perez Franco, who was heavily influential in Paul's architectural explorations and drawing techniques. Where Perez Franco was a master draftsman with impeccable traditional drawing capabilities demonstrated throughout his 60-year career, JP Paul incorporates similar approaches using a large-format Cintiq tablet and then combines the results with acrylic painting.
