JP Paul explores controlled randomness and physical expression in another series of intricate and heavily-textured mixed-media paintings on recycled and repurposed canvas. He lays down dozens of layers of marks, dots and strokes to create a complex tapestry while painstakingly building exquisite over-all compositions. A digital imaging specialist before returning to more traditional methods, JP often explores digital outcomes through analog tools and vice versa, most recently with explorations into dot matrices, big data depictions, building relationships between marks, dots and negative space, and creating various illusions with color, controlled abstract forms and density. The paint becomes the content, and the physical act of applying the paint instills the energy that is readily apparent in these works. These works are also a continuation of the Anonymous Memories series depicting the frequently amended, never concluded nature of art and life.
