• After Lillith

An environmentalist at heart, Isabel P. Etchavarria searches for methods to incorporate recycled objects into her work, an example being her recent Umbrella series of highly-textural yet minimalist paintings featuring broken umbrella fragments, mesh and loose fabric, all found astray in streets and parks.

One of Etchavarria's favorite contemporary artists is German Anselm Kiefer who she pays homage to with her rendition of his extraordinary Lilith works.

Isabel Etchavarria

La Barra, Uruguay

Artist / Technology Integrator

Isabel Perez Etchavarria comes from a Uruguayan family of artists and architects in Montevideo. She spent part of her formative years in Venezuela before pursuing  university studies in United States at the age of 16. After graduation from the U of Tennessee with a degree in Computer Science with minors in Philosophy and Mathematics, Etchavarria worked in the fields of academic technology and graphic design before returning to study studio arts in South Florida in the mid 90s.

While in art school, Etchavarria's studio work ranged from realistic drawing to abstracted-figurative painting before gradually becoming more three dimensional. She explored forms through clay & raku sculpture, a process she continues today. During her time in South Florida she was recognized as a woman artist to watch at both state and national levels.

ArtSur is proud to represent Isabel P. Etchavarria worldwide. For information about more available work for purchase or exhibition, please contact us.
